John Carrol Harney, 65, passed away September 21, 2012. John, a beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, and long-time Montclair teacher and coach, will be greatly missed. Viewing will be at the Hugh M. Moriarty Funeral Home on Tuesday at 11AM to 12:45PM. Then to St. Cassian Church (187 Bellevue Avenue, Upper Montclair) where at 1PM a mass of Christian Burial will be offered. John attended Montclair High School and graduated in the class of 1965. He was a valuable player during the formative years of the Montclair High School Lacrosse Club and a formidable center for the undefeated 1964 state championship football team. For those who knew him, his wonderful way with words and his love for life were the outward face of his gregarious Irish soul. He will be survived by his loving wife Elizabeth Harney and daughters Leigh, Sarah, and Emily, grandson Aiden Sharpless, brothers Ken, Gerard, and Tom Harney, sister Kathy Turner, and many loving nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Montclair Lacrosse (Montclair Lacrosse Alumni Association, 102 Essex Ave., Montclair, NJ 07042) and/or Montclair Football (Montclair Foundation for Educational Excellence, 22 Valley Rd., Montclair, NJ 07042).
