Obituary of Odevia Field

Odevia Helen Field (1923-2014) Odevia Helen Field (née Brown), age 91, passed away on Wednesday, May 7, 2014, surrounded by her family. Daughter of Charles A. Brown and Luerenda Hunter, Odevia was born and raised in Okmulgee, Oklahoma and attended Langston University. During World War II, she moved to California, where she married her husband, William H. Field, before moving on to Paterson and East Orange, N.J. A superb cook, seamstress, and teacher, Odevia worked over the years at Stockton School, Seton Hall, and North End Nursery. With a loving heart and soothing touch, Odevia raised three children and brought joy and laughter to many more. In 2008, she moved to St. Louis, M.O., where she lived with her daughter, Beverly Field Whittington. She was preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters, her son, Kenyon Brown Field, of Montclair, and her husband, William. She is survived by her sister, Barbara (Brown) Player, and her children: Beverly Field Whittington, Philip Hunter Field, and Tyrone Kemp. She also leaves behind granddaughters Kay Whittington, Penney McCoo, Kendra Field, Kylah Field, and six great grand children.
