I am so sorry for your lost, but please know that all hope of seeing our loved ones again is not. Notice how our Heavenly Father promises us this at John 5:28,29. If we want to be one of the ones who welcomes them back, we have to apply John 17:3. My deepest sympathy to you all.

i remember back in 1987. i had just graduated from college in PA. i wanted to stay in the ny metro area and look for a job. and aunt dee welcomed me into her home and helped me get on my way. but there's more to this story - more that i know that anyone that knows aunt dee will attest to. it was not just that she welcomed me, but that she made me feel like i'd been there before - for years and years, for as many years as i'd been alive. she is one of the warmest, most natural personalities i've met in my life. she makes you happy to have known her, and to have been cared for by her. and she teaches you. and leads you, softly. once, when her oldest son (kenyon brown field) was nearing the end of his journey, i brought my oldest daughter to meet her and kenny. within minutes of meeting my daughter, aunt dee was playing jacks with her on the floor - yes, on the floor. and this was only going back a little more than a decade. yes, do the math! she has an amazing ability to connect with people, to set them at ease and to show them that they were important. she is a natural leader. we often think of leadership as loud, domineering or forceful. but it's not. she reinforced something i was coming to believe more and more - that leadership must be compassionate, caring and empathetic. and, that leadership often meant being strong and sure enough to humbly walking alongside and behind, so that those you are leading can learn to make their own way. i watched aunt dee that day with my daughter and learned more of the same lessons she showed me when i first came to live with her fresh out of college. i named my daughters with names that began with K's because my cousins, her sons, did. it's that simple. it was that short time i spent in her home that touched me. i admired her strength in the face of kenyon's lifelong health struggles. i admired how kenyon was as a man. he had a beautiful strength that turned adversity into magic. and i admired how her youngest son (philip) was as a man - he was sure, expressive and confident, and through other's stories and descriptions i came to know and admire her daughter, my cousin beverly, because bev is so much like aunt dee. aunt dee lives on inside these wonderful people. looking back now, i can see her in my early memories of them. i know it to be true. she let them be who they were meant to be; that is who she is. we should all hope to be so successful as to not only make beautiful life but raise and lead them into beautiful people. she leads in a way that softly fades away and leaves one feeling self-assured. i want my daughters to have a piece of who she is inside them. when they ask me, as kids do, why do both our names start with K's? i get to tell the story that started with aunt dee. thank you, aunt dee. i will never forget you and your beautiful example.

Odevia shall always be remembered as my dearest childhood playmate and friend during our times in Okmulgee. Memories of making our way down the railroad tracks between our homes under the watchful eye of Grandpa Monroe shall never be forgotten. He would join us in playful talk and we would laugh and giggle the entire time while catching butterflies and dreaming of new dresses. As teenagers in Wewoka our bond was never stronger and the laughter never more joyful. Praying that Odevia's family and friends find comfor in all the wonderful and lasting memories she leaves each of you. Love you for all the wonderful times we shared together. Always, Vernita Woodard

To my grandmother, Odevia, who knows all of this. My grandmother built me, piece by piece, story by story, lesson by lesson. She created and gave us a family, a love, for which there are no words, and she breathed new life into it time after time. I had the privilege of knowing motherhood through her eyes, and from this there is no turning back. For every bit of her tenderness, grace, and humility, my grandmother was courageous. She taught me how to live and how to love. She was and will forever remain my person on this earth.

I remember what a comfort Aunt Dee was when my grandmother (her sister) passed a few weeks before our last family reunion in Oklahoma. Hugging you, seeing your beautiful smile and spending time with you gave me great comfort. It was like being with my grandmother again. Thank you for that Aunt Dee. You will be missed.

My sister, Odevia, was the kind of person who'd give her last penny to someone less fortunate. I hesitated to admire something of hers too much..she'd want me to have it. She'll be loved, remembered forever. We can smile because she left us so many memories..she left a legacy in her children, grand and great grands..which lives on and on. She'd want us to smile and continue in this tradition. Miss you, Dee
