Obituary of Marion Kiernan

Marion Grace Kiernan died November 29, 2013 at her home in Verona, NJ. She was 81. Marion was born to the late James and Marion White on June 25, 1932 and lived in Quincy, MA. She graduated from North Quincy High School and received a BS in Nursing from Boston College in 1954. She married the late Peter L. Kiernan in 1955, and they lived in Riverdale and Crestwood, NY before relocating to Montclair, NJ in 1967. Marion had a very strong commitment to her nursing profession and held positions in hospital and school settings while raising her family. She later worked for many years as a Registered Nurse in the Outpatient Departments at East Orange General Hospital and Newark Beth Israel Medical Center. Marion was always an extremely active person with varied interests. She took many opportunities to contribute to her community through a number of volunteer activities. She was very involved in her parish church of Immaculate Conception and was a member of the Catholic Daughters, the Rosary Altar Society and the IC Club/ Blue Lion Club. She was a participant and team member of the Women's Cornerstone Retreat at Our Lady of the Lake in Verona and a volunteer at Birthright. Marion loved to travel and made many trips with her husband, but her favorite vacation spot was Marshfield, Massachusetts, which she visited every year of her life. Marion is survived by her nine children and six daughters and sons-in-law : Maureen Kiernan; Teresa and Patrick Carr; Peter Kiernan; Christopher and Jeanmarie Kiernan; Thomas and Michele Kiernan; Joseph Kiernan; James and Margaret Kiernan; Diane and James Hoye and Mary and Robert Hough. She is also survived by her sisters Dorothy O'Brien and Mary Denneen, her brother James White and her fifteen beloved grandchildren.
