Obituary of Richard H Appert
Richard H. Appert of Cedar Grove, died peacefully , November 30th, after a brief illness.
RH Appert, (84) a longtime resident of Montclair and Cedar Grove NJ, has died on November 30, 2024. The son of Richard H. Appert and Ruth (Lehman) Appert. Richard was born on February 20, 1940 in Teaneck, NJ and grew up in Rutherford. Educated in New York City at Xavier Highschool, Fordham University with BA in Math and received an MBA -Finance from Columbia University. He married Nancy Cunningham in 1963 and they moved to Karlsruhe, Germany to complete his military service. Short trips from the Army base in Europe were prelude to future career-related moves to France and Singapore that offered many life-long friendships and the appreciation of fine food and wine. Upon his return to the States, he earned his CPA and began his professional career as a consultant with Arthur Young, Financial Controller for Becton Dickinson and CFO for several Private Equity groups until retirement. He was Founding member and past president of the Essex County Wine Society and taught wine tasting at the Adult School of Montclair.
Richard is predeceased by his wife of 57 years, Nancy Cunningham Appert. He is survived by his brothers Gerard W. Appert (Dorothy Stetz Appert), Edward P. Appert (Karen Appert), William Appert (Christopher Wallace), and Chet Radven (Joan Monahan Radven). He leaves behind his children, Richard H. Appert III (Giselle Mackie Appert) and his daughter, Tricia L. Appert (Nhan Paul TonThat), his grandchildren Ryan James Appert, Maren Kate Appert, Lucy Ton That, Rebekah TonThat, and Rachel TonThat.
Visitation is Thursday December 5th 4-7pm at Hugh M. Moriarty Funeral Home, 76 Park Street in Montclair. Funeral mass will be held at 10am on Friday December 6th at St. Cassian Catholic Church in Upper Montclair, followed by interment at the Cemetery of the Holy Sepulchre in East Orange.
