Obituary of George James King Sr
George James King, Sr. (July 16, 1937 – July 4, 2024)
George, of Upper Montclair, NJ and Normandy Beach, NJ, died peacefully surrounded by his family. Beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. Born 1937 in Jersey City, NJ to Veronica and Martin King. He graduated from St. Peter’s Prep (1954), St. Peter’s College (1959) and Columbia University Business School (1970). As a captain in the US Marine Corp, he served during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was employed by Hurdman & Cranston CPA’s and Avon Products, Inc., where as an Area Director – International, he retired in January of 1993.
He is survived by his wife, June Good King who he married at the Willow Grove Naval Air Station Pennsylvania, February 25, 1961, his children; Susan Munhall (Steve Anderson, Jim Munhall (decd)), George King (Luz Mary Ruiz), Ann Jennings (Shawn Jennings), his grandchildren; Lauren Munhall, Zachary Jennings, Kayla Jennings, Jillian Jennings, Maximus Jennings, Luke Jennings, his brother Martin King (Judy King), sister-in-law Ann Moore and nieces and nephews. He was sadly predeceased by his sister, Margaret King (July 3, 2021), brother-in-law Howard R. Moore (March 2, 2015) and son-in-law James D. Munhall (September 11, 2001).
George’s career incorporated travels around the globe. He entertained his family, grandchildren and friends with countless tales of his adventures during his trips. He had a wry sense of humor, was a voracious reader, golfer, fan of UConn Women’s basketball and ice cream maker. George had a tremendous love for Spain, London and Latin America, where he enjoyed many friendships over the years. Above all was George’s love for the beach where he shared many happy times and created beautiful memories with his cherished grandchildren.
Service: Wednesday, July 10, 2024; 10:30 am St. James Episcopal Church, 581 Valley Road, Upper Montclair, NJ 07043. Private Burial.
