Obituary of Janice Arnold

Janice Regina Arnold February 16, 1955 – June 6, 2023

Janice R. Arnold, 68, of Monroe Township, formerly of Upper Montclair, passed away peacefully on June 6, 2023.

Janice was born in Brooklyn, NY, the seventh child of Harry and Mae Arnold. The family moved to Upper Montclair that year, and Janice resided in Montclair until late 2021. Janice was a graduate of St. Peter’s College and also received a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education from Northern Illinois University.

She worked for the Montclair School District for over 30 years at the Watchung Elementary School. While teaching there, Janice initiated the 5th grade overnight environmental field trip to Fairview Lake that continues to this day.

Janice found much joy in her life through music. She played the guitar, loved singing, and was the 6th member of her family to sing in the Glee Clubs of St. Peter’s College. She was elected President of the Women’s Glee Club in her senior year. She also loved spending time on the beach at her family’s summer home at Breezy Point, NY. Always an animal lover, she was steadfast in support of fostering neglected dogs. She was an avid supporter of many environmental causes. In her retirement, she also enjoyed making personalized, seasonal wreaths for family, friends, and anyone who asked!

Her greatest joy, however, was her family and her pups, Cassie, Dixie, and Daisy. Janice is predeceased by her beloved parents, Harry and Mae Arnold, as well as her brother, Harry; and her sister, Ginny and brother-in-law John Flanagan.

She is survived by her brother Jay of Lake Ariel, Pa; her sister Joan and husband Jim Ball of Hunt Valley, MD; her brother Bob and wife Mary Anne of Verona, NJ; and brother Greg and wife Maureen of Eatontown, NJ. Janice is also survived by 13 nieces and nephews as well their respective spouses, and 18 grand nieces and nephews, all of whom she lovingly treated as if they were her own children. She was also blessed with having many lifelong friends.

Janice will be keenly missed by all who had the pleasure of loving and knowing her. We take comfort in knowing that she loved all her family and friends just as deeply.

Visitation will be on Sunday, June 11, from 4 to 8 pm at the Hugh M. Moriarity Funeral Home, 76 Park St, Montclair. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Monday, June 12, at 10 am at St. Cassian’s Church, 187 Bellevue Avenue, Upper Montclair.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Montclair Animal Shelter or The Aidan C. McMullen, S.J. Scholarship Fund, Saint Peter’s University, Jersey City, NJ.
