Obituary of Laurie Deimel

Please share a memory of Laurie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Laurie A. Deimel 67, of Annandale, passed away suddenly in her home on January 25, 2023. Laurie was born in Haines Falls, New York and was raised in Basking Ridge, New Jersey. Laurie was predeceased by her parents Albert “Ronnie” Deimel and Lorraine A. Deimel and her longtime partner Blair Stephenson. Laurie is survived by her brother David of Estero, Florida.

Private arrangements are by Moriarty Funeral Home, 76 Park Street, Montclair, New Jersey 07042. Internment is in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Flemington, and will also be private.

Laurie recently retired from owning and operating Over the Hill Farm in Clinton, New Jersey where for decades Laurie dedicated her life to looking after the sick, injured or retired horses, as well as foaling many horses. It did not matter if the horse in Laurie’s care was a well-known racehorse, an Olympic level show jumper or someone’s beloved pet, Laurie treated all horses with the same outstanding keen level of attention. Laurie’s knowledge regarding the welfare of horses was legendary and the horse community mourns the loss of this extraordinary lady.

Prior to opening Over the Hill Farm, Laurie managed Jackie Kennedy Onassis’ hunt horses, worked at Beval Saddlery and became a vet technician for Dr. Dave Lambert and Furlong & Associates equine clinics. Laurie was known for her incredible work ethic and her love and kindness to all beings. Laurie was selfless and will be missed by her brother David and by all of her friends, as well as her beloved dog Frankie.

Laurie’s friends will host a celebration to honor Laurie’s remarkable life in the spring. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Laurie’s honor may be sent to The Seeing Eye, Inc., 1 Seeing Eye Way, Morristown, New Jersey 07960.
