Obituary of Ruth Manamey

Ruth Blanche McManamey (nee-Kupferer) passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 21, 2010, at home.
She was born November 30, 1920, to Gustav and Bertha (Kemlitz) Kupferer, and grew up in West Orange. Ruth graduated from Upsala College, where she played both basketball and softball. She had many stories published in a variety of magazines and was fiction editor at McCalls and Redbook magazines before leaving to raise her children in Glen Ridge, where she resided for over 50 years. She was also secretary of the Glen Ridge Congregational Church after her children were grown.
She was a humanist that loved nature and the outdoors. Ruth was never happier than camping with her family, which at times included three dogs. She had a wonderful sense of humor
She was predeceased by her parents and her sister, Ethel Kupferer. She is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, John Joseph McManamey, Jr.; and her daughter, Heather Calhoun, and her husband, Craig; and son, John G. McManamey, and his wife, Lisa. She leaves behind six grandchildren whom she adored and was adored by; Shawna, Zachary and Joshua Calhoun, and Meghan, Brittany, and Cristina McManamey.
Visitation will take place at the Hugh M. Moriarty Funeral Home, 76 Park Street Montclair, NJ on Friday from 3-7PM. At 6:30 PM a funeral service will take place. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to PAWS P.O. Box 149 Montclair, New Jersey 07042
