Obituary of Patricia Young
Patricia Barbara Young “Aunt Patty” entered Eternal Life on August 12, 2021 in Montclair, NJ. The youngest of seven, she was born in Newark, NJ to Alexander Aloysius Young and Margaret Ann Young (nee Gilmore), on July 27, 1924. A graduate of St. Michael Grammar and High Schools, she earned her BS in Education from Newark State Teachers’ College and began her career in 1949, while living in Hunterdon County, at a two-room schoolhouse in Sergeantsville NJ. She joined the Newark Public School System in 1951 where she served the educational needs of the people of Newark for over 45 years. Always continuing her education, Aunt Patty earned a certification in School Psychology and an MS in Administration from Rutgers University. She was employed at Robert Treat School, Avon Avenue School and Peshine Avenue School (as Vice-Principal) before eventually serving in administration at the offices of the Newark Board of Education. After retirement, in 1992 she purchased a home in Upper Montclair.
Aunt Patty travelled the world, the only person we know that visited Cuba in the Pre-Castro days. She loved her trips to Marian Shrines in Europe and the Americas. Her trips to Cape Cod in the summer with family were special for all.
Our Auntie was a faith-filled person with a special love for her Church and all things Catholic. She always lived by the words “God is Good.” She was the first female Altar Server at the 8:15 Mass at St. Cassian Church, where she also served as a Eucharistic Minister, Lector, and Song Leader. She enjoyed joining the ladies for coffee after Mass at the Cozy End. She loved her Rosary Groups, Over 50 Club, Bridge Group and bowling with the Belles of St. Cassian. She had a special fondness for the Sisters of Charity of Convent Station.
A lifelong volunteer, she devoted 21 years to St. Vincent Nursing Home in Montclair and Cedar Grove, 2 days a week and holiday mornings, assisting the residents at Mass and in various other ways.
She is survived by her loving nieces Mary and Ann Pavlovich, her great-nieces Sarah and Lavinia Kronberg, and her great-nephew Malachy Kronberg as well as many other nieces and nephews. A mass of Christian burial will be offered on Wednesday August 25 at 10 Am at Saint Cassian Church, 187 Bellevue Ave. Upper Montclair.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the St. Cassian Legacy Fund.
