Following the mass today at Saint Cassian Catholic Church in Monclair from across the ocean. Sad to learn of the passing of Joe Calnan. Happy in knowing that he led such a rich and full life, leaving behind a splendid legacy in his family.

Joe and I first met, in 1990, at The Little Ship Club, London UK, where we trained in the art and skill of sailing. We took our various shore-based and sea trials, together. We introduced our respective partners, Barbara and Maggie, to each other and formed a very special relationship; so much so that we shared annual charters in the Caribbean.
Sadly, Barbara passed away in the mid-90s. Pat joined us, at the end of that decade, and shared in various annual Caribbean cruises. Joe and I took turns in organising our charters; and the one, who had to sign the contract, became the "official" skipper; but we always co-skippered our charters, agreeing on each itinerary, in advance and during the voyage, should the need arise. Our bond was strong; especially when we took every opportunity to relax, at the end of each day, with a rum in one hand and a cigar in the other. Our charters were fun.
Rest in Peace, dear friend. I shall miss you, enormously.
Bernard
