Dr. Christine Wallace Laidlaw Christine Wallace Laidlaw died peacefully in her sleep on Oct 28 in Montclair, NJ, after a long illness. Born in Providence in 1935, she was the daughter of Frederic A. and Christine Chace Wallace. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Angus M. Laidlaw, two children, Angus M. M. and Christine I. Laidlaw, three grandchildren, a sister, Freda Wallace MacLeod, brother-in-law James Wiles, and nephew Gregory Wallace. Educated at The Wheeler School, she earned her AB at Bryn Mawr College, MA at Columbia University, MFA at Princeton University, and PhD from Rutgers. She was an independent scholar in art history, a research consultant for the Asian Art Department of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, and the editor of Charles Appleton Longfellow: Twenty Months in Japan,1871-73. She has also published articles on Japanese influence on American art, and on American silver and decorative arts. Private Burial will be held Saturda, November 13, 2010, please contact the family if you are interested in attending.
A Memorial in Montclair, NJ will be held Saturday, December 11, 2010 from 2-5 at the Montclair Women's Club, 82 Union Street, Montclair.
A Cape Cod Memorial will be held Saturday, May 14, 2011, starting at 2pm at the family's house in Harwich, MA.
