Joseph Purcell died peacefully on February 5th in Bloomfield, NJ at the age of 94. Joe is survived by his loving wife Virginia. Joe is preceded in death by his son Brian Purcell and his daughter-in-law Karen Purcell. He is also survived by four sons Gerry and his wife Ellen, Timothy, Kevin and his fiancée Deirdre and Patrick and his wife Kathleen, as well as, Brian’s wife Anne Long of Seattle, WA. In recent years Joe enjoyed his time playing golf, attending sporting events and spending time with his much loved grandchildren, including Connor, Brian, Ryan, Sean, Eileen, Jamie, Michael, Kieran and Alison. Joe was born on September 5, 1925 in Jersey City, NJ. He graduated from St. Peter’s Prep in 1942, and after service in World War II from 1943-1945, graduated from St. Peter’s College with a degree in business. Joe remained a life-long supporter of the Jesuits until his passing and was a parishioner at St. Mary’s in Nutley. Joe’s distinguished business career included a long tenure as President of Mooney Brothers. Joe married Virginia in 1952 and they raised their family in Nutley, NJ for over 62 years. Joe was a member of Forest Hill Field Club (FHFC) and enjoyed golf with his family and friends for over 50 years at FHFC.
