Obituary of Stephen Sherman Koenig

Stephen “Bones” Koenig passed away on the evening of January 16, 2020. Proud Montclair High School Alumni and Verona resident, He was born March 14, 1950 in Glen Ridge, New Jersey. Son of William A. Koenig and Phyllis (Sherman) Koenig. Brother to Bill Koenig (Kris) Betsy Berra (Tim) and predeceased by Kitty Koenig Probyn (Colin). He is survived by his wife Margie and two sons Greg and Spencer. A visitation will be held on Thursday, January 23, 2020, from 5pm to 8pm at The Hugh M. Moriarty Funeral Home on 76 Park St, Montclair, NJ. Memorial service at the First Presbyterian Church ,10 Fairview Ave, Verona, NJ on January 24, 2020 at 11 am. Steve was last employed by the Verona Board of Education as their electrician; he retired in July, 2018. He was a licensed electrician for over 40 years, doing residential work. He was proud owner of Koenig Electric for 10yrs. He was a member of the Commonwealth Club in Montclair, where he enjoyed weekly bowling, sports parties, and hanging with the guys. Bones loved collecting old furniture pieces and restoring and/or re-purposing them; He spent hours in the driveway with all his tools that he loved. He was a lifelong Yankees fan; could often be heard yelling at the TV during games. He adored Yogi Berra, and happily volunteered at his fundraiser for the Special Needs Boy Scouts of Essex county, at the Montclair Golf Club for over 20 years. His biggest accomplishment was his sons, their college graduation and eventual gainful employment . He encouraged them to have a similar work ethic that he had. After his retirement, Bones and Margie took an unforgettable trip to Ireland; enjoying the Guiness,the beautiful countryside, and the friendly people. Bones loved his family, his friends, his beer, and R and B music that you could dance to. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Community Fund at the Commonwealth Club, 26 Northview Ave Upper Montclair, NJ 07043.
