Walter Powers A Celebration of Life Walter Powers passed away peacefully on December 21st, 2019 at the age of 78 after living a "life of his choosing" as he liked to say. He was diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis as a young man of 20 years old but he didn't let it define him. He credited the disease of redirecting his focus from athletics to academics and graduated from his dream school: Harvard Business School. He was co-owner of Tri-Chem Inc., a hobby paint company and took great pride in being able to employ 120 people and extra income for thousands of craft instructors. Walter was also proud that he had made a difference in some people's personal lives there. He was always optimistic that somehow there was going to be a solution for his disease. Walter was always in the mindset of "making things work." His view on life was always optimistic; somehow things were going to work out! The last chapter of his life's journey was warm and comfortable; he would say he felt like he was in a nest. To the end, he was taking out the garbage, involved in current events, making pasta sauces and very active in thinking about the investment world. He was still exercising, enjoying food and a glass of wine. Walter is survived by his wife, Elise; his son Matthew and his wife, Sue, his daughter Amanda and her husband Michael, his daughter Elise, and two grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Anna-Olivia. A memorial service will be held at Hugh Moriarty Funeral Home located on 76 Park St., Montclair, NJ on December 28th from 2 to 4 pm.
