Obituary of Kathryn Perino

Kathryn Perino, born November 24, 1939 in Jersey City, NJ and lived in Montclair, NJ for 30 years, passed away November 28, 2019. 

Kathryn taught for 38 years, in the Union City school system, 37 of those in Emerson High School. Kathryn received her bachelor's degree from Jersey City State College and her master's from Seton Hall University. She was an extraordinary Language Arts and Literature teacher who inspired students and was so gratified when they succeeded in school and later life.

Kathryn was captivated by children's literature and the Renaissance period. A Shakespeare enthusiast, she traveled to London many times attending plays at the Globe Theatre. An avid reader of many genres, she could always be counted on for excellent book recommendations.

Kathryn traveled extensively especially in Europe. She befriended people in England and France. Her memory was amazing, recounting her travels in detail. Kathryn's range of knowledge was tremendous. In the 1990s, she was a contestant on Jeopardy. If one had a question, call her-no need to Google! 

New York City, especially Manhattan, was her “playground" with Broadway and off-Broadway plays a feast throughout the years. Museums, shopping, and savoring dinners at various restaurants added to her enjoyment.

Kathryn was predeceased by her father, Felix, her mother, Edna, and her sister, Arlene.  She will be greatly missed by her devoted and care-giving friends Marjorie and Richard Zaccagna, her godson Richard (Natalie) Zaccagna, Matthew (Courtney) Zaccagna, her cousin Adele(Paul)Maguire and family, long-time friends, colleagues, and countless students.

Funeral from the Hugh M. Moriarty Funeral Home, 76 Park Street Montclair, NJ on Wednesday at 9AM.  Then to St. Teresa of Calcutta Parish, Church of the Immaculate Conception 32 North Fullerton Avenue Montclair where at 10AM a Mass of Christian burial will be offered.  Interment Holy Cross Cemetery North Arlington.  Visitation Tuesday from 2-7PM.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Montclair Public Library would be appreciated.
