Longstanding Montclair resident.

James W. Vaughan, 99, of Cedar Grove, formerly of Montclair died Friday April 19, 2019. Relatives and friends will gather beginning at 9:30AM at The Church of the Immaculate Conception-St Teresa’s of Calcutta Parish, 30 North Fullerton Avenue in Montclair on April 29, 2019 for a Mass of Christian burial scheduled for 10:30AM.  Burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover.

Born in Nelson County, Virginia, James was the loving husband of 63 years to the late Claire M. Vaughan (Werner).  He was a proud U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.  He is survived by his sister, Gloria Curry and her husband John of Washington, D.C.  Also survived by his son, Christopher and his wife Julie of North Easton, MA, son Martin of Montclair and son Robert and his wife Ramona of Stroudsburg, PA.  He is survived by 10 grandchildren, Catherine Eriksen, Timothy Vaughan, Elizabeth Vaughan, Anna Vaughan, Judith Genneken, Michael Kornytchuk, Stephen Palmatier, Sal Palmatier, Rebecca Vaughan and Robert Vaughan. He is survived by 4 great grandchildren, Alyssa, Steven, Luca and Owen. He is also survived by his “adopted” granddaughter, Katie Begley of Montclair.

James was predeceased by his parents, Christopher and Nettie Vaughan, his sisters Frances and Evelyn, his brother William, his stepdaughter Alice and his children Michael James and Mary Ellen.

A lifelong fan of his beloved Notre Dame Football team, James was a long time communicant of Immaculate Conception Church in Montclair and the Building Manager for 188 Claremont Avenue where he made many life-long friends.
