Obituary of Mildred Prial Robinson

Mildred Prial Robinson, 94, the widow of George J. Robinson II, died peacefully on Thursday, March 30, 2017 soon after receiving the sacrament of healing in Aiken, South Carolina where she has lived with her second daughter for the past four years. Tucky, as she was called since her brother coined the nickname when she was born, leaves a large and loving family who span the globe. The mother of five children, four girls and a boy, she is the grandmother of ten and the great grandmother of eleven who called her Super Grandma. She was born in Brooklyn, New York, one of three children where she lived until she moved to Hillsdale, New Jersey in the early 1950s, part of a wave of post WWII families who created vibrant suburban communities. Her father Edward B. Prial died when she was in high school; her mother Mildred in 1961. Her brother Frank J. Prial, II, preceded her in death in 2000. She is survived by her sister Patricia Lowe of Greenwich, Connecticut. Her grandfather Frank J. Prial was the controller of New York City in the 1930s and founded the civil service New York City newspaper The Chief that continues weekly publication to this day. Tucky met her husband George in Brooklyn as a girl while roller skating and, as the story goes, George fell in love at first sight. They married in New York City on April 15, 1944. She was a senior at Marymount College in Tarrytown, New York majoring in English. He was an ensign in the Navy ready to be shipped overseas to fight the war in the Pacific Theater. Her trip across the country alone by train to see him off from San Diego remained her tale of courage and love. They stayed at the great hotel, The Coronado, until he shipped out and it became a place of family lore. They were married for 63 years and considered faith and family the centerpiece of their lives. Long time members of Ridgewood Country Club, in retirement they spent part of each winter in Marco Island, Florida. They moved into The Kentshire in Midland Park, New Jersey in 2004 with old friends from Brooklyn with whom they shared a life-long friendship. George died in Midland Park on July 13, 2007. Tucky is survived by her five children and their families. Robinson III and Elizabeth (Beth) of Dallas, Texas, Perry and Andrea, Isabella, Gabrielle, Jack and Luke Robinson of Mendoza, Argentina, Megan and Dave, Liam, Cora Shadrick of Arlington, Massachusetts, and George J. Robinson IV of Lyons, Colorado; and Joanne (Jody) Fargo of Bloomsbury, New Jersey, Robert Fargo of Aberdeen, Scotland and Elizabeth (Tess) Fargo of New York City, N.Y. Tucky’s legacy is her love and commitment to her family. Tucky was a long-time member of St. John the Baptist parish in Hillsdale and Our Lady Mother of the Church in Woodcliff Lake, New Jersey.
