Obituary of Marjorie Burns Brown

Marjorie Evelyn Burns Brown (b. 1919) died January 23, 2017. A graduate of Montclair High School, she obtained her BA in Art History at Wellesley College in 1941. She completed a graduate degree in library science at Columbia University. Employed by the New York Public Library from 1942 to 1944, she later worked for Time, Inc. in its research facility from 1945 to 1948 and as an editorial researcher for Time Magazine from 1948 to 1960. She was married to A. Bruce Brown, Jr. from October 1956 until 2006, when he died. They had three children (Alan, Caroline, and Peter) and, later, four grandchildren. In 1960 she left Time to raise her family, later volunteering at the Montclair Art Museum, Toni’s Kitchen, St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, and her children’s schools. She also worked as a part-time reference librarian for the Glen Ridge and Montclair Public Libraries. In 1933 she joined St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, where she worshipped regularly and sang in the choir until her health declined.
