Steady. This is the first word that comes to mind when I think of my cousin Richard.
Steady - he was always so focused and engaged. When he was speaking with you, there was a connection without distraction. He listened intently and his responses were thoughtful and impactful. He was unwavering in his beliefs, disciplined in his actions and resolute in his drive to be the best possible provider for his family.
Other words follow....kind, warm, friendly, light-hearted, courageous, disciplined, caring, loving and determined. He was a family man. He was a hard worker. He enjoyed life, especially if it involved being around his family or friends - even better if there was a golf club in the mix.
Richard recently sent me a book in the mail. The title is "A Course Called Ireland." It's about a man who took four months off from work and literally walked the perimeter of Ireland, playing all of the famous, and not-so-famous courses our ancestor's beautiful homeland has to offer.
I imagine Richard is now on that walk, enjoying the fruits of his labors of love, his acts of compassion and all of the good deeds he performed. He's certainly enjoying the walk, and smiling with every step and swing, but he's also thinking about his family, watching over them from above. He can't wait for all the clan to join. In the meantime, I hope he takes the time to relax a bit and comes to know how fine a round he played while here on earth.
To Richard.
Cousin Joe

Richard was a kind and loving cousin. We always enjoyed seeing him at family gatherings and sharing a beer, a story and a laugh or two. His courage and determination to stay positive and active throughout his illness is an inspiration. We are so, so sorry that his life story ended this way. He is in good company in heaven with his parents and son and so many others. They are having a wonderful reunion.
Love, Katie, Blase, Monica, Tom & Dominic

It was with great sadness that I have just read about the passing of Richard. Reading of his passing has brought back memories of our families growing up together in West Orange. Unfortunately, I am currently away from New Jersey and will not be able to attend the services in person.
Please accept my most sincere condolences on the loss of your loved one.
With deepest sympathy,
Charlie Roche
