Obituary of Nicholas Willson

Dr. Nicholas Willson of Upper Montclair, New Jersey and Charleston, South Carolina died on July 31, after a brief illness. Born and raised in Upper Montclair, Dr. Willson was a graduate of Immaculate Conception High School, St. Peter's University and the New Jersey College of Medicine and Dentistry. He completed a medical residency in Neurology at the University of North Carolina (Chapel Hill), followed by a fellowship in Neuropathology at the New York Columbia University Medical Center. During the late 1960's, Dr. Willson was a Lieutenant Commander in the U.S. Navy and served as a medical officer in the Department of Neurology at the Naval Aerospace Medical Institute in Pensacola, Florida. After completing military service, Dr. Willson returned to his medical research career. Board certified in Neurology and Neuropathology, he focused his research and writing on these areas. Dr. Willson was an Associate Clinical Professor of Neuropathology and Psychiatry at Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons and was appointed Secretary of the Group of Neurotoxicology for the World Federation of Neurology. At the time of his retirement, Dr. Willson was the Director of the Central Reference Laboratory-Neurotoxicology Laboratory of the New York Psychiatric Institute. Dr. Willson's parents, Nicholas Stock Willson and Mary Walsh Willson, pre-deceased him. He leaves five siblings: Mary Anne, Carolyn, Heather Cass (Richard), Thomas (Barbara), Nancy; three nieces: Courtney Cass Sumner, Lauren Willson Luckett, Hayley Willson and a nephew, Richard Cass, Jr.
