I knew him as Dave.. he was a freshman at Boston University and I was a sophomore. We met in a computer science class. We were the best of friends. He was so happy.. always smiling… laughing…we even considered being roommates the next year! I lost touch w Dave.. I tried to find him on the internet for many years but was unable and stopped looking. I recently lost my husband of 22 years and have been dreaming of him. Last night I had the most vivid dream of Dave with my husband! Dave was smiling and happy.. the Dave I knew and loved.. albeit for some reason his name was Raul Castro in my dream.. the face and the person was Dave. Today I decided to try to search for him under David, since I never got anywhere w Dave, and was so, so saddened to find his obituary.. he was a joy and a gift to all who knew him. I am so happy he was able to find love with Vito.. my deepest condolences to Vito and the rest of Dave’s family..

David was my mentor and a true inspiration to many. David always treated every person he came in contact with dignity and respect. When I last spoke with David about a month ago through email, he provided me with the famous quote from Maya Angelou:
" I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel."
David, I will always remember how you made us all feel so special. I will love you forever!

My dad loved teasing David all the time. As we graduated and he retired, he always has such fond memories and talked about him quite often. We will cherish those wonderful memories of a kind and loving spirit. Our love and condolences to the Castro family and Vito.

When I think of David, the first picture that pops into my head is of him and his big smiling grin, marching down the hall to come visit me for something I promised him. I quickly learned two things about him... Whenever he asked when he could have something, I had better be able to deliver when I said I would, because he would be hunting me down and haunting me until he got what was promised. Secondly, I had better know what I was talking about because he would be quizzing me until he was satisfied that I did!
David had a few phrases he loved to use and I don't think I will ever forget them... One was "Trust but Verify", he would never take a promise at face value. He always followed up and made sure that promises made, were going to be kept. Another was "May I give you some feedback". This one always struck terror in my heart, as I knew he was not happy with something I did and I was about to be scolded in the nicest of ways!
While David was very serious about work, he had a great sense of humor! I must confess I enjoyed pulling practical jokes on him. One such prank, I cut out Q's and left them in various places in his office. Why Q's? I used to call him Mr. Question, because he never failed to ask a bunch of them no matter what the issue! Of course, pranksters like seeing the reaction of their victims, well... David was cool as a cucumber and wouldn't give me the satisfaction of asking about all the Q's he was finding! I did eventually have to confess to elicit his response! The joke was on me!
As my mentor he encouraged growth and learning. Not just for me, but for all his employees. He was never upset or cross when someone left for a better position. He was always genuinely happy for their good fortune and encouraged others to be as well. He was a great role model, especially in his final months when he acted with so much grace and courage in spite of his illness. He never complained, he accepted his predicament and resolved to do all he could to beat it.
I have no doubt that I will never again encounter anyone like David. He was truly unique and I for one, will miss him dearly. Rest in Peace my friend.

I am deeply saddened by David's passing. He was by far one of the smartest people I have ever met. I worked with David for about 20 years, the last 8 he was my manager and mentor. He was instrumental in my decision to return to school, and supported me throughout the 4 years it took to get my degree. David was generous with his time and assistance when needed. He had a way about him that caused me to always do the best I could to succeed in completeing our various projects together. He demanded excellence from his reports and never settled for borderline work. His numerous questions kept us on our toes and thinking outside the box. In the course of my career, I have often asked "What would David do?" I will continue that practice forever. David will always be held in great esteem and will never be forgotten. Please accept my deepest condolences for his loss.
