Obituary of Alfred O'Brien

Alfred T. O'Brien, 85, of Hemlock Farms, PA, formerly of Montclair, NJ, died on May 1, 2014, after a life well lived. He was a graduate of Immaculate Conception High School and Villanova University. In 1991, he retired after 36 years with New Jersey Bell as Division Vice President. He was also an Army Veteran who served as a 2nd Lieutenant during the Korean War. Among involvement in other activities, Mr. O'Brien was active with the United Way of West Essex and the parishes of the Immaculate Conception and St John Neumann, and was a founding member of the Blue Lion Club supporting athletics at Immaculate Conception High School. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Hall of Fame and received the school's first distinguished alumnus award. A son of Irish immigrants, his true joy was found in the celebration of faith, family, and friends. He was predeceased by his wife Phyllis, son David, and grandson, Michael, as well as his sister Rosemary McCormack. Surviving are his brothers, Walter and James, daughter-in-law Eva O'Brien of Lower Gwynedd, PA, and his children: Timothy & Jill of Kennebunk, ME, Patrick & Elena of Bedford, NH, Christopher & Flora of Annandale, VA, Seaneen & Jeff Hunter of Wyckoff, NJ, James & Sue of Ashburn, VA, Kathleen & Joe Moore of Fredon, NJ and Megan & Jeff Iansito of Independence, NJ. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Kevin (Lindsay), Daniel (Katie) and James O'Brien; Tara, Caitlin, and Shelagh O'Brien; Christine, Tyler, and Isabel O'Brien; Casey and Kerry O'Brien; Molly, Emma, and Grace Hunter; Thomas, Liam, Kelly, and Bridget O'Brien; Colleen, Annie, Kyra, and Julia Moore; Kate and Abby Iansito. Donations may be made in his memory to Immaculate Conception High School Scholarship Fund, 33 Cottage Pl, Montclair, NJ 07042.
