Coach Patsy Quarto, who taught in the Montclair School System for 40 years, passed away on Saturday April 19th due to heart complications. He was born in Orange, NJ and graduated Immaculate Conception High School here in Montclair in 1964. He held two Essex County football records for 20 years while playing for the lions. He graduated college from the University of Tampa and started teaching physical education in the Montclair Schools in 1970. In July of 1971, he married his wife Judy of 43 years. Their daughter Jessica was born in 1983 and their granddaughter Rileigh was born in 2012. Patsy started coaching football at his alma mater in 1971 under head coach Jack Jones. From 1975-1979 he was the defensive coordinator under head coach Joe Lennon where together they won the Parochial B State Championship in 1978. He then coached for two years at Bloomfield High School and from 1983 to 1985 he was the defensive coordinator for head coach Dennis Heck at Clifton High School. From 1986 until 2009 Patsy coached football at Montclair High School as defensive coordinator for head coached Jack Davies and Ed Lebida. They coached in the Star Ledger game of the century in 1990 against Randolph; and from 1993-2009 Ed Lebida and Patsy Quarto's teams won 12 Conference Championships and participated in 10 Group 4 State Championships. In addition, Patsy coached girls softball for 15 years and was the head golf coach for 8 years.
