Carl G. Pfeifer, 98, a resident of Job Haines Home, Bloomfield, formerly of Montclair, NJ, died on Thursday, April 17th. He was born and raised in the Vailsburg section of Newark, NJ. He enlisted in the army during the Second World War. He served in the signal corps and was trained as a morse code operator. He was part of the initial wave of the June, 1944 D-Day invasion, landing on Omaha Beach. He also served in the Philippines He met his future wife, Margaret Russo of Montclair, after the war, while recovering from Tuberculosis in upstate New York. They were married in 1957. They initially resided in his family home in Newark until permanently moving to Montclair. Carl worked for the Fire Insurance Rating Bureau in Newark. He enjoyed painting, traveling and especially family. Carl was predeceased by Margaret in 2006. He is survived by his step son Ron Naspo and Ron's wife, Diana. He has two grandsons, Chris of Freehold NJ and Leigh Naspo of Ingolstat, Germany, and 5 grandchildren, Connor and Logan of NJ, and Tyler, Louis and Sofia of Germany. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Robin Pfeifer Evans of Southampton, NJ. Any donations offered may be made to the Job Haines Home, 250 Bloomfield Ave., Bloomfield, NJ 07003
