Margaret M. Burns (nee Maher) died peacefully on March 1, 2014, age 96 in her home in Montclair surrounded by her family. She was born in Oil City, PA and was one of 10 children. She moved to Buffalo, NY when she was 18 to pursue work and and it was there, at 28, that she met the love of her life. She married Joseph B. Burns in 1946 and together they had 4 children. She was a devoted homemaker and baker extraordinaire; her family was her passion. She moved to Montclair in 2003 to live with her daughter and family. She quickly established herself as the 'Grandma' to her grandchildrens' friends, who affectionately called her 'Gamoo'. Throughout her long life, she touched the lives of many in an unassuming and gentle way. Margaret was the treasured wife of the late Joseph B. Burns; she is survived by her children, Joseph A. (Karla) Burns, Timothy J. (Julie) Burns, Hon. Christopher J. (Colleen) Burns all of Buffalo, NY and Mary Anne (Peter) Vaughn of Upper Montclair, NJ; loving grandmother of Kelly, Christopher (Mary), Bridget, Devon, Olivia and Maggie. Proud great-grandmother of Christopher and Mia. Services will be held in Buffalo, NY and she will be buried alongside her husband at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Batavia, NY. Memorial contributions may be made to Barnabas Health Hospice and Palliative Care Center, 95 Old Short Hills Road, West Orange, NJ 07052.
