John "Gage" Cross, 81, Dade City, Florida on January 30, 2014 Mr. Gage was born May 13, 1932, Newark, NJ to parents John Joseph Cross and Edna Stocker Cross and raised in Montclair, NJ. He attended University of Notre Dame then served in the US Army 1952-1954. Gage settled with his family in Bridgeton, NJ where he operated the family trucking business, Cross Transportation. He was active in the local community and church and was an avid hunter and golfer. Gage and his wife retired to Kiawah Island, South Carolina where they were both involved in the golf community including volunteering at national tournaments. They continued to enjoy their golf lifestyle when they moved to Lake Jovita in 2004. Gage was an active volunteer with the Hernando- Pasco Hospice, regularly participated in the Relay for Life and a member of St Anthony Catholic Church in San Antonio. John was preceded in death by daughter Jennifer Cross. He is survived by his wife of 60 years Sheila (Gallagher), children Maryanne Lynn Rutledge, Sharon (Michael) O'Connor, Michelle (Donald) Dunworth, Mary Therese (Francis) Maus, John (Diane) Cross, Alisa Marsh. Sisters: Diane Taylor, Pamela Zusi, Florence Boyle, Mary Dougherty and 15 grandchildren and 6 great- grandchildren. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Hernando- Pasco Hospice, Clinton Avenue, Dade City.
