Obituary of Therese Byrne

Please share a memory of Therese to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Therese A. Byrne entered eternity quietly at the Van Dyk Manor home on October 1, 2013, with her family present. Therese was born in Manhattan and raised on Long Island. She was a graduate of Bishop McDonald High School in Brooklyn, NY. Therese met her husband at the Catholic Canteen in St. Albans, NY and was married for sixty three years. She raised nine children - Maureen of New Canaan, CT; Thomas of Washington, DC; Therese of Manhattan, NY; James of Scarsdale, NY; Michael of Westfield, NJ; Jennifer of Montclair, NJ; Patrick of Fairfield, CT; Sean of Marlton, NJ; Terence of Glen Ridge, NJ. She was an exemplary mother and wife. Therese unselfishly devoted her whole life to her husband, children and grandchildren. She had nineteen grandchildren - Patrick, Christian, Julia, Sean, Courtney, Meghan, Colin, Ryan, Tara, Nicholas, Mackenzie, Sierra, Mark, Connor, Brooke, Chelsea, Sean, Ryan and, Jack. Even though her time was largely focused on the obligations and responsibilities of a large family household, she always found time to be actively involved in her children's schooling and activities. Therese once remarked to her friends that when the youngest child was born in 1968, she could see that in 1990, after 40 years of raising her own children, she would be able to also enjoy experiencing the lives of her grandchildren. Her first child was born in 1950. Therese endured long days caring for her children and still found time to avidly read, play bridge, attend all types of her children's and husband's events, participate in the P.T.A. and community workshops as well as always staying active in the Catholic church liturgy and religious services. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to: Sisters of Life St Paul's Convent 586 McLean Ave. Yonkers, N.Y. 10705
