Florence ("Flo") McGill, M.D., 89, a longtime resident of Upper Montclair, New Jersey, died on May 3, 2013. Flo was a graduate of Our Lady of Good Council High School in Newark, New Jersey and Chestnut Hill College in Germantown, Pennsylvania. She received her medical degree from State University of New York Downstate Medical Center College of Medicine in 1949, one of only a handful of women in her class. She practiced as an anesthesiologist. Most of her medical career was spent at Clara Maas Hospital in Belleville, New Jersey, where she served as the Director of the Department of Anesthesiology for a number of years. Flo was a dedicated physician, who was well-loved by both staff and patients. She perfected the art of balancing family and career. In retirement, Flo enjoyed the friendship of the ladies of the Verona Garden Club and the Montclair College Women's Club. She was a tireless caretaker for her husband in his last years. Flo is the widow of Henry McGill. She is survived by her son Kerry McGill, and her daughters Sharon Buge and Christa McGill. She was a devoted grandmother to Sharon's children, Kimberly and Kevin, and Kerry's children, Blake and Reagan. Beloved by her family, Flo will be remembered for her devotion to her family, her dedication to her profession, and her generous spirit.
