Obituary of Angus Scott-Fleming

A memorial service will be take place 3 pm this Sunday the 25th at Presbyterian Church of Upper Montclair. Angus Crerar Scott-Fleming was born in Straits Settlements, Malaya (now called Penang, Malaysia) in 1920, and grew up in Scotland, then Leigh-on-Sea on the Thames River estuary in Essex County, England, and lived in Montclair for over 65 years. He met Winifred Williams while attending the London School of Economics, whom he married during World War II. Angus served in the British Army in Dakar, Africa and elsewhere. Angus and Freddie were married for 37 years until her death in 1979, living initially in London, England, emigrated to Montreal, Canada, and after their first winter they moved south to the warmth of the New York City area where their three children were born. He married Virginia Marguerite (Peg) Wilson in 1985 to who kept him happy and hearty for the last 28 years and was a true father to her children. Angus worked as a chartered accountant in London and NYC for several years before joining Pfizer Pharmaceuticals in their corporate finance division, and later Singer Corp. Pfizer sent Angus and his family to Istanbul, Turkey and Sao Paulo, Brazil, after which they returned to Montclair, which they chose for its integrated, high-quality school system. From 1973 he worked as a small-business financial consultant and for 25 yrs. as a professional income-tax advisor for Gearty & McIntyre. He didn't fully retire until last year. His passions were golf, sailing, hiking and reading, and he maintained a lively interest in technology, science and politics all his life. He was a witty, humorous, dignified man, and a wonderful teacher, husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived and missed by his many loved ones, including his wife Peg and family, Charles, Rebecca, and grandchildren Kyle, Kelsey and Scott. He is also survived and missed by his own children Alison, Angus and Ian, and the Fleming-family grandchildren Christa, Kate, Ian, Gillian, Colin, Alexander and Felix, and great-granddaughters Lizzy, Elora and Aurian. He died peacefully at the age of 92 only 3 months after his last round of golf. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Charles Wilson Urban Golf Memorial Fund, c/o Joe Putrino at Northeast School, 603 Grove St., Upper Montclair NJ 07043.
