Obituary of Jeannette Raimondi

Jeannette (nee Hunziker) Raimondi, 99, passed away on Thursday evening,  October 19, 2023 at UMC at Bristol Glen, a Senior Retirement and Long Term Care Facility in Newton, New Jersey where she resided since 2015. She was born on December 26, 1923 in New York City, NY., then was raised in Union City, New Jersey.  Jeannette was employed by General Foods in Hoboken.  She met and married Raymond R. Raimondi (ex-husband, now deceased)  and moved to Montclair where they raised their only child Deborah, whom they had adopted at five years old. After the divorce, Jeannette remained in Montclair and bought a condo. She helped her mother Marthe Hunziker and her sister Paulette (now both deceased) move from Fairview to an apartment close to her in Montclair, so she could help take care of them.  She was employed as a Customer Service Representative for Hoffman La Roche Pharmaceutical  company in Nutley, NJ until she retired at the age of 70.  She then took some college courses, and also became a volunteer to help with autistic children. She was a loving person with a big heart and was always helping others whenever she could. She was a caring and devoted daughter, sister, beloved mother and doting grandmother. We really thought she was going to live to be 100, and she almost did.  She made many friends during her lifetime and at Bristol Glen where she was loved by many who describe her as feisty and funny. She will always hold a special place in our hearts.  Jeannette was predeceased by her parents Marthe (nee Metzger) and Paul Hunziker , and her only sister Paulette Hunziker.  She is survived by her daughter Deborah Van Gieson and her husband Thomas, her grandchildren Michael Van Gieson, and Kelley Van Gieson and her fiancée Chris Worden, and five great grandchildren Allison and Logan Van Gieson, and Sean, Mason and Kaycie Worden.  The family will receive friends and a service will take place during visitation from 9:30-11:30 a.m. on Tuesday October 24th at Hugh Moriarty Funeral Home, 76 Park Street, Montclair, followed by Interment at Mount Hebron Cemetery, Upper Montclair. Flowers are welcome and Memorial donations may be made to Alzheimer’s Association or Multiple Sclerosis.
