Obituary of Margaret Smith

Please share a memory of Margaret to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Margaret Davis Smith, known to all as Peggy, passed away on Saturday evening, June 28th, 2014 in her own home in Essex Fells after a protracted illness. She was 78 years old. Peggy was the beloved wife of Leon G. Smith, Sr. and the mother of Dr. Leon Smith, Jr, (Anne Goffin), Dr. M. Michele Blackwood (Adam Blackwood), Dr Stephen Smith(Susan McGrath Smith), Dr. Ann Denehy(Thad Denehy) and Marshall Smith(Amy Rash Smith). Peggy was born in Hudson, New York to Marshall and Margaret Davis. She was raised in Germantown, New York and is pre-deceased by her parents, her brother, Thomas, and her sister, Elizabeth. After graduating as the Valedictorian of her high school class, Peggy matriculated to Georgetown University's School of Nursing. Where she received her BSRN and met her future husband of 56 years. They went on to raise 5 children in Upper Montclair and Essex Fells, New Jersey. Peggy was tall, elegant, beautiful and fun. She enjoyed life and the mayhem that ensued with 5 children. She was surprisingly adventurous-even traveling to the USSR in 1969 while 8 months pregnant. After raising her five children, Peg managed her husband's office in Roseland, NJ. She provided the practicality and the attention to detail that kept their home and office running smoothly. Peggy loved to be surrounded by her family and friends. Many nights she could be found having dinner at Essex Fells Country Club or Pals Cabin with her husband, Leon and other friends. Above all, Peggy loved her 15 grandchildren. She asked them to call her Peg. They were each special to her. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the place that she said changed her life: The Peggy Davis Smith Fund Georgetown University PO Box 571253 Washington, DC 20057-1253.
