Joan (Birmingham) Scannell, 77 of Glen Ridge, formerly of Montclair, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 26, 2016 at her residence in Brewster, MA. She was the loving wife of the late Robert E. Scannell, and she is survived by her two daughters, Kathleen and husband Scott Graham of Harwich, MA and Nancy and husband Paul Di Cicco of Glen Ridge. She was the proud grandmother of Livia Graham, and Gavin, Lily & Maeve Di Cicco. She also leaves a sister Carolyn Leahy of Dallas, TX, and she was predeceased by her brother James Birmingham. Joan earned her MSW from Fordham University in New York, and she was an active volunteer with the multiple birth center at Valley Hospital in Ridgewood, NJ, as well as at Toni’s Kitchen in Montclair. She was a committed member and generous supporter of the Montclair YMCA, the Salvation Army, and Immaculate Conception Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alzheimer’s Family Support Center of Cape Cod, 2095 Main St. Brewster, MA 02631 or Toni’s Kitchen, 73 South Fullerton Ave. Montclair, NJ 07042.
