Obituary of John C Leaman

Please share a memory of John to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Dr. John Creamer Leaman, age 89, passed away peacefully on February 27, 2016 with his sons at his side. He was born and grew up in Valley Stream, Long Island. He attended Columbia University, graduating in 1948. He went on to attend Albany Medical College and, on completion of his degree, returned to New York City to do his residency in ophthalmology, later to become a retina specialist. Dr. Leaman was one of the first in his area to repair retinal detachments using cutting edge laser technology and other surgical procedures. He became one of the top surgeons in his field. He married his wife, Elizabeth Preble in 1957 and relocated to Glen Ridge, NJ in 1965 where he continued his successful practice. By nature a generous and philanthropic man, he often performed these surgeries without charging a fee for those who were unable to pay. In the year 2000, he retired from his medical practice, but continued to live a life of generosity and service. Predeceased by his wife of 56 years, Elizabeth, Dr. Leaman is survived by his sons, John C., Jr. and George Francis and by his brother, Leonard. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to a charity of your choice.
