Ethelind Larson Stranahan (Lynn to friends, Mimi to grandchildren), 93, of Montclair and Allenhurst, NJ passed away Thursday April 5, 2012. Lynn was a dear friend to many, and a mother to two daughters, Susan Johnson, Thetford, VT and Karen Stewart, Montclair, NJ and lived for her grandchildren Courtney, Nina, Tim and Emily, and her great grandson Carter. Lynn and her long time companion Matt Klapmust of Clifton, NJ, and enjoyed spending afternoons doing crossword puzzles. Lynn was born in Clifton, September 24, 1918. She spent her early years in Clifton & Bloomfield, and was one of the first graduating classes of Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School in NYC. Lynn married her husband, DeLloyd "Bus" Stranahan in 1949 after meeting on a beach walk in Spring Lake, NJ. Bus was a Lt. Commander in the Navy and passed away in 1954. Lynn raised her two daughters in Bloomfield while working full time. She continued to work until 2009, when she finally "retired". Lynn was an active member in the Lutheran and Swedish communities, and donated winter coats every winter to less fortunate children at Glenfield School Montclair. Lynn enjoyed competing in advertisement and naming competitions; her winnings include naming the Jersey Jackals. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Tony's Kitchen, Montclair, NJ. Visitation will be held Monday, April 9, 2012 from 11:00-12:30 with a service at 12:30 at Hugh M. Moriarty Funeral Home at 76 Park St., Montclair NJ, with a private burial for family, Monday afternoon.
